Returns and Exchanges

We make every effort to describe our products in full detail. Please note, small anomalies are inherent to the hand printing process. While we hold ourselves to a standard of high quality, not every print will look exactly the same or be completely free from smudges, fingerprints, etc.

We also realize that we can package a print to withstand a hurricane and the shipping companies can still find a way to destroy them. We will gladly exchange any damaged item if additional copies are available from the edition. If the edition is sold out, we will offer a full refund minus the shipping charges. Please contact us if you need to request a refund or exchange.

What is a Linoleum Block Print?

Block printing is a special form of printing first developed in China. The earliest known example with an actual date is a copy of the Diamond Sutra from 868 A.D (currently in the British Museum), though the practice of block printing is probably about two thousand years old.

Linoleum block printing refers to the fact that the original plate is carved from linoleum as opposed to wood or any other substance, but in essence, the technique remains the same.

Does Masthay Studios create second editions?

We do not create any second editions from the original plates. The fact is, we couldn't if we wanted to. The technique used for our linoleum block prints is called a reduction print. This means that the same linoleum plate is carved away between colors creating an overlap of colors on the actual print. Therefore, the plates self destruct through the printing process.

Are Artists Proofs (AP's) Available?

Typically there are AP's created from an edition. The number of AP's varies but usually does not number any higher than five. If you are interested in AP's please contact us and we would be happy to inform you whether any are available.
